Tarinamme alkaa vanhasta huonokuntoisesta omakotitalosta; oikeasta arkkitehtuurin helmestä, jossa saimme asua viitisen vuotta. Valo tulvi ihanasti ikkunoista sisään, huoneistossa oli tasoja ja ulottuvuuksia, mutta.. Rakennus oli tunteella ja suurella sydämellä itselle tehty ja suunniteltu muutama vuosikymmen sitten, mutta toteutus ei vain kestänyt pohjoisen ilmaston kovuutta. Taloon muuttaessamme tiesimme toki, että edessä oli joko mittava remontti- tai purku-urakka. Purkuun päädyttiin, koska talon täydellinen remointointikaan ei olisi taannut sitä, että talosta saataisiin täysin terve koti. Rakennukselle haettiin purkulupaa, joka pitkällisen prosessin seurauksena saatiin tammikuussa 2016. Kun talon purku oli suoritettu maaliskuussa 2016, tuntui että ensimmäinen iso askel matkalla oli saavutettu ja tästä oli hyvä jatkaa.
Olemme aikaisemmin remontoineet täysin yhden omakotitalon sekä pari kerrostaloasuntoa. Kokemusta ja intoa korjausrakentamiseen on aina löytynyt; se on uskomattoman palkitsevaa, kun saa suunnitella ja luoda jotain uutta vanhojen pintojen ja ratkaisujen tilalle. Vanhan korjaamisessa on aina omat rajoitteensa, jotka rakennuksen pohjaratkaisu sanelee. Uudiskohdetta rakentaessa vain taivas (ja budjetti ja kaava ja..) on rajana! Olemme uteliaan innokkaita aloittamaan tämän projektin, joka varmasti on sekä opettavainen, raskas, luova että palkitseva yhtäaikaa!
Uudisrakennusta pohtiessamme ensimmäinen päätös mikä tuli eteen, oli rakennusmateriaalin valinta. Eli haluaisimmeko esim. runkorakenteisen puutalon, hirsitalon, CLT talon vai kivitalon valuharkoista, kevytsoraharkoista, valettavista neopor-harkoista jne. Tuntuu, että lista on loputon. Valinta oli myös tehtävä siitä, halusimmeko valmiin talopaketin vai arkkitehdin piirtämän ratkaisun. Ensi alkuun kaikki nämä vaihtoehdot olivat hyviä ja varteenotettavia! Fiilistellessä erilaisia talomalleja ja -materiaaleja alkoi kivitalo tuntua enemmän ja enemmän omalta, meille sopivimmalta ratkaisulta.
Our story starts with the same lot but with the old house. This old house was an architectural pearl that we managed to live in for five years. There were rays of natural light, different layers and beautiful dimensions in that house, but.. It was build with a big heart for a family some decays ago, but the harsh northern weather conditions were too much to take! The day we moved in, we knew that this house needed a total renovation or more like a rebuilding operation. In the end, the total demolition of the house was the only solution because there were no guarantees that that house could have been saved. So we applied for the demolition permit and after a long process this was granted in January 2016. When the house was all gone in March 2016, it felt like we had taken the first step and started something new.
We have renovated one house and couple apartments before. So there is some experience and a lot of excitement for the new project. It is amazingly rewarding to plan and create something new . There are certain limits when you are renovating an old house, for example the structures and the floor plan…… But with the new house, basically everything is possible, everything that is in line with your budget and maybe with some building restrictions. We are anxious to start this project that will be both challenging, creative, tough and rewarding.
The first decision was about the building material… Would it be a wooden house, a log house, CLT house (cross-laminated timber), house built of Neopor or EPS… It seems that the list of choices is endless. Also we needed to decide whether to buy “the whole package” where everything in the design is considered and decided or should we just start from the very beginning ourselves … At first all these choices seemed possible. The first big decision was made to build a concrete house and to do as much as possible by ourselves.
